The more points someone has means that they have answered a lot of questions and those that have the higher ammount of points usually have answers that are voted "Best Answer" by the person asking the question, and are more helpful.

It makes the person seem smarter if it shows that they have answered a lot of questions correctly.! (yess i got to level 3) lol
