But the standards of his day, he was a liberal.
But it's hard to transfer what he taught in that day to present times, politically speaking.
Example; Because he saved the woman caught in the act of adultery, does that mean he would be against ALL death penalty cases?
And, if you noticed, while he saved her, he didn't back down on saying she was wrong. ("Go & sin no more.") I can imagine liberals screaming, "Who are you telling her what to do with her own body!"
He obviously wanted the poor to be taken care of, but does that mean he would have wanted the government to be in charge of it? And 50% of the rich man's income being confiscated to pay for it? That sounds more like Robin Hood than Jesus Christ!
He said you have to pay your taxes, but would he have voted for a politician who advocated fixing things by higher taxes?
He taught obedience to the government, but does that mean he wanted a big government?
I can't imagine Jesus being anything but disgusted by mid to late- term abortions, but the Bible is not specific on the subject. The issue of "when life begins" would have to be answered, first.
But as far as issues like trade unions and strong regulation of business, strong environmental regulations, animal rights & gun control, it's hard to say, exactly.

Jesus was a Liberal and for the people, the Jews were Conservatives that Jesus condemned for pandering in the temple and he sent them out. The Jews went to Pilot the Roman (BUSH) and had Pilot fledge Jesus and put him up on the cross. Christ never ever taught Capitalism as the word of the Father. Pat Robinson and the soap opera preachers carry on over that while they are stealing money from old women on television. This should definitely be stopped since it has evolved into what is is today and is causing corruption abroad...False prophets the word has told us about are Pat Robinson and his 700 crew.

I'm not adding anything that hasn't been said but frankly, I think Jesus would be very open to alternative styles, sexualities, and views. I mean, wouldn't it make him hippocritical if he hated someone for who they are when he was killed because people hated him for who he was? I believe he would have a strong set of fundamentally Christian morals when it comes to Abortions and political questions of Morals. Truthfully, though, he would announce himself as an independant. I'm sure of that. His ideas would vary, and he would be more liberal... but he would be smart enough to realize both sides are wrong sometimes. Best thing to do, vote for the guy you like better, regardless of party.

It's really hard to say...liberals tend to favor a woman's choice..Jesus would not. Conservatives tend to favor capitalism..Jesus would not. There are too many things on each side that would pull Him out of the category. I guess the closest you could say is that He would be a moderate.... :)
But, I think He transcends politics..that's where the regular folks like us get stuck...

Jesus was a Liberal. He hung out with the poor and downtrodden. He threw the Pharisees out of the temple. He said the meek shall inherit the earth! Yep He was a Liberal.

This is a hard one...in some things, Liberal, in other things Conservative.
I don't think He would have been an isolationist...He wouldn't have had the attitude of "if it doesn't affect me"...So, He would have taken out Saddam to defend his people, I think. I think He would use the USA power to protect the weak. I don't know if He would have wanted us to seek revenge for 9-11, but He would want us to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.
I don't think He would have been for abortion. The Bible talks about God knowing us in the womb. I think He would have held innocent life to be sacred.
I think He would like to have crosses in public buildings....and nativities in town squares. He would want teachers to be able to talk about their faith and for police to be able to wear crosses on their collars.
On the other hand, I believe He would want us to be good stewards of the environment. I don't think He would approve of hedonistic wealth. But both conservatives and liberals or at fault on these issues.
It is a hard one.....

Jesus would stay out of partisan politics and say,
"Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Mat 22:21

Jesus was not divine, but he was smart enough to give unto Caesar.
The Islamic world is in turmoil because their great prophet was a secular leader and a religious one.
Buddha gave up being a prince to become a prophet.
See a pattern?
Smart cultures keep church and state separate.

Conservative in morals and liberal in giving and caring for people - you just cannot put Him in a political catergory.
And Jesus wasn't a bleeding heart anything- though He loved and cared for the sinner He never once accepted or made excuse or justification for their sin and was not content to care for them and move on leaving them continuing to sin and make excuses for it.
