its a big science my friend, three to five years course you want to learn in yahoo answers. you need to first ask yourself few questions.1) what is your product. 2) why it is different then others. 3) if you have to give only one word why some one should buy it what word it would be.4) how many bill board you are going to make.5) for how long time 6) what is your target group as customers.7) do you have any logo 8) any brand ambassador. with all these answers you need to sit with your advertiser to make a good plan otherwise it is waste of money.

If you put on any kind of small print on it, you shouldnt be running a buisness. Ask the billboard co youre going through to tell you the sizes of print on their other boards and go look at them. That way youll get a feel of the size you need to use.

Basically you need, logo (or someother service/trademark), phone # and/or website, what you do (in a quick nutshell), picture of your product/service.

You should cruise down the interstate and see what boards catch your eye and which ones suck and go from there.

Respectfully, I think you should ask a slightly different question: "what should I put on a billborad for effectiveness?"

The most effective words on a billboard are "EXIT NOW"

If it takes more than 3 seconds to read, it's wasted.

Good luck,
Scott

Absolute lack of sense of visual direction.
The most prominent message in the last possible place.
Unwanted image of a sky-clad bombshell.
Cheap slogans.
