insert 2 dissimilar metals in either acidic or alkaline solution.

Copper & zinc or copper & nickle will work fine

attach a wire to each of the metal strips. Be sure to strip insullation about 1/2 inch from both ends of both wires.

connect a load (this can be meter, small lamp bulb, small alarm buzzer or bell) between the other 2 wires

You have a better chance in illuminating a low voltage LED that uses much less power than a light bulb.

Try layers of nickel, wet paper (wet with water) and galvanized washers. Each layer will provide 1.5 volts - Hence, the wet cell battery.

Get enough layers, you can light that LED.

One layer may be enough to power a simple digital wristwatch.
