...then, how come I see so many kids on motorized scooters and mini-bikes? Why don't parents encourage their lil' porkers to walk or ride REAL bikes?

Because a lot of parents don't want to take the time to TEACH their kids how to ride a real bike. They just want a little robot they can brag about at their work and gym and social whatevers" Oh, sure Johnny's a little chubby, but he's soooo smart, and is the top of his class, I wouldn't be surpised if he's a ceo of a fortune 500 company 1 day!"

Because parents no longer truly influence their children for the most part - tv does - and keeping up with their neighbors and placating their children is easier than trying to battle the temper tantrums that weren't controlled when they were two or three - we're tired and worn out and why we keep having children is beyond me because we seldom truly take the sacrifices to raise them in the way that is truly best for them - and that is with Mom at home teaching and guiding them - and it is a selfless sacrifice - but more than worth being poor for - I'm glad I chose that way - my son doesn't expect everything and he knows that it takes us all to work, communicate, and live together peacefully in order for our home to be a desireable place - and it must be working as all his friends would rather be here as in their own homes and some of them have money that could make weaker ones of the faith covet - but we have no desire to have more than what we were willing to sacrifice - we don't have cable tv, we don't have new cars, we only have one cell phone for 3 people, we have one computer and internet, we choose our movies as to our interest and not tv induced interest and we interact as a family - father, mother, and son - this is the joy of what we gave up 17 years ago when we had great careers that could have landed us on easy street in our retirement years - but we feel this investment will have far greater dividends,

My daughter's getting kinda chubby (she's 6) and 2 days ago I finally got her to ride her bike without training wheels and I hope that she is going to have so much fun on it that she works that little belly off.

Because we want everything fast and easy.

We can buy our way out of it most of the time, but fortunately, money means nothing to the processes of the human body.
