Without being critical, I wonder how many people actually read a newspaper, much less a newspaper with the longevity and reputation for excellence as the New York Times. But, I would say that I believe I would trust Mr. Friedman's research and, certainly, his fact-finding.
There aren't many Pulitzer Prize Winners or Nobel Prize Winners who are charletons or incompetent in their work. Mr. Friedman has both of those pretigious awards to his credit.

I give the NY times even a less credibility score than most, so it's pretty doubtful.

anyone who touched the story of our tracking methods should be brought on charges of treason and executed.
the NY times should have been closed down permantently, but no one has the guts to enforce the law anymore.

I trust him to write interesting and thought provoking items for the newspaper. I don't always agree with him but he always makes me think.

Ummm....I didn't know who he was so I searched around on the internet...and I just really couldn't get enough information about him (I'd like to read his articles, but I'm too cheap to pay)...so, I have no opinion one way or the other.
