The problem is that most kids nowadays have it a lot easier than their parents had it back when. So the parents want to give their children all they never had growing up and it is making the children lazy. They are not having to work and do good for rewards they are just given. Also on your statement about education. I agree with it to an extent. Let me tell you a story. I have a kid working for me that got caught drinking. The school suspended him from sports for 30 days. This kid was a big, important football player and that is the only sport he was in. The school told him he should join track and use the suspension up so that he could still play football. What kind of punishment is that. It sets a bad example to other kids and it hurt the reputation of the school.

I can not disagree or agree on your statement about the American education system because I live in the Caribbean. where I live kids of this generation do have it easy but they are not spoiled rotten at least not the majority. Those that are spoiled they aren't rotten. I do agree that with the help from the media and their parents my generation is one of the worst. Most of us have lost all ambition. the education in my country is very good in the private schools but could be better in the public ones.Yes most children today do not have to work for what they want but is being a little spoiled really a bad thing. The parents are just trying to give their kids what they couldn't get when they were children.

yes they are more spoiled and exposed to more garbage now than when I was young in the 70's - It will be interesting what will become of them. When I was a senior in high school(1981) our esteemed administrators herded us into the performing arts theater and asked us to write an opinion as to why we thought the educational system was slipping. It didn't do any good it slipped anyway
A war involving a draft is most likely a done deal and this will kill off many and wound twice as much. I believe today's youth are more immature because they haven't had to for go a really tough time doing without and working to put
food and clothing into the household. Remember a generation was doing that when Hitler attacked Poland. America may be staring into the abyss again and this will bring some character back to this young generation

Kids today are more educated than any previous generation.
therefore they take for granted at a younger age things that their seniors only just learned.

Kids today have more agile minds biologically and temperamentally as well, they are a generation of lateral thinkers, less rooted to tradition than even their hippy parents.

This is especially hard for Baby-Boomers to understand as they think they own the concept of youth instead of having borrowed it like every previous generation.
How can kids be rotten because of the media when the media is run by YOUR generation?

You complaints are the same ones your parents complained of.

To use the words from your generation...
meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Don't worry, the kids are alright.

Especially mine ages 3-17 and most of their friends too.

I aggree whole heartedly I think its the generation that spawned this one that is fried cause they figured they would never disiplain their kids like their parents did and look what happen the world turned to ****. You look back when our parents were our age and it was actually safe to go out at night and no one even knew what the hell a carjacking was muchless identy theft. Think about if this generation had the morals instilled into them like our parents did then their would be less violance and more of the community spirte that they had back then. Unlike now when you look at someone wrong in school or even on the street you can get shot. I am not saying that the life style of most of the things that were done back then are right but when it comes to rasing kids something most have been done right.

I totally disagree, the young people didn't cause the war.
We don't send young people to die in a foreign country.
Grownups do! We are not alcoholics, What parents? They left there responsiblity of raiseing us to someone else.
We know how to work. We are better educated than any group of children before us. when you grew up did you operate a computer? what about a cell phone? Ipod? Most of your don't even know what that is. I have to help my grandparents because they didn't even know how to hook up a DVD.
Had to show them how to send a text message.
Your so smart and capable why don't you fight your own wars?
Why do you send the young people to die?
Grown ups today are probably the least educated and most arrogant of any generation. Remember we are the ones who will decide what kind of a nursing home you will be put in.
Yea the mothers who either abandone us or got an abortion.
Our day will come you arrogant SOB

Every generation says this about the next generation - and it sucks because we in the younger generation are having to clean up all of ya'lls crap and mistakes.

Jeez, ya old geezer. Stop complaining and try to pass on some of your wisdom. Plus - you still have time - make a difference yourself.

Take on the Education System - get it away from the Fed. Remember what things were like before all of this crap ya'll got us into - before you gave away a lot of our freedoms crying for the government to rule our lives. Research your history and find out what really happened.

Don't piss us off, you old fart, because the gov't isn't going to be able to pay your bills for too much longer.

Fools! It all goes down to government schools, taking away the influence of parents and breeding the government's view of the modeled citizen. In the government controlled education: "we know how to educate your children better then you can ever do and their is no god but government". scary huh!

To Shell:
More educate, that's funny, the rise of dropouts, teen pregnancies, and above all the lack of disciple please. Your grandparents had, (in there time) technology that their grandparents didn't have little to no knowledge about because it was beyond their time. That has been going on forever. That answer is another example of government education right there everyone.

Oh yeah, by the way, I'm 19, graduated government highschool in 2005.

I was looking for a quotation from ancient Greece. The author berates the younger generation about their laziness and lack of manners. However, I can't find it.

So, I'm going with the lyrics from a song found in the play and movie "Bye, Bye Birdie" Kids.

Kids!
I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They a disobedient, disrespectful oafs!
Noisy, crazy, dirty, lazy, loafers!
While we're on the subject:
Kids!
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!
Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!
Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids today?
Kids!
I've tried to raise him the best I could
Kids! Kids!
Laughing, singing, dancing, grinning, morons!
And while we're on the subject!
Kids! They are just impossible to control!
Kids! With their awful clothes and their rock an' roll!
Why can't they dance like we did
What's wrong with Sammy Caine?
What's the matter with kids today

Most of the public education system in America sucks. A lot of the blame goes to not only the parents, (rich) society or the media or even to the kids themselves, it also goes to the government.
