class be subnet mask would specify two 8 bit network address and two 8bit host address.
Class C would specify 3 8 bit network address and only One 8bit host address.

255.255.0.0 vs. 255.255.255.0

The 255 numbers are used to identify the network and the 0's are use to identify the hosts on the network.
