I mean look at our female celbrities... they pretty much look like walking skeletons in stillettos... which is not all that sexy. Where are the curves? Why is this society so bent on skinniness... which in part affects eating disorders...
Don't some of the celebrities out there just make you want to force them to eat a hamburger... or ten?

I have a friend who actually finds that skinny look... the skin and bones that is best represented by Lindsay Lohan... attractive and wants to be it. Actually, she is already there... pretty much, and keeps saying how she wants to loose more weight. I think it's a sickness... and all these model shows and magazine adds with the "perfect" bodies only makes the problem worse.

Yes, yes, and yes. By the way, did I mention YES! I totally agree, I am not one of these anorexic Barbie look alike's, does that mean I'm not pretty too, I don't think so, I happen to know plenty of guys who like a little meat on their woman. Also, not just our celebrities, but almost all clothing is designed for skinny people, at least the cute stuff. If you are a larger girl with any kind of figure, you can almost forget about wearing anything really cute, unless you e=want to pay a fortune. This totally sucks. I LOVE MONIQUE!!!!! She definitely said it right, "Big b i t c h e s handle yo s h i t"

I was babysitting a 9 year old who refused to eat anything besides dry salad because she was worried about gaining too much weight. How freakin horrible is that? I wish that people could be viewed by WHO they are and how TALENTED they are rather than what they look like in a freakin bikini. The world would be a much better place.

I feel like maybe some people just take them too seriously. I think that celebrities are manufactured to be symbols of AN aesthetic ideal but not necessarily how EVERYONE is supposed to look. I feel bad for all those celebrities because they lose all their humanity when they agree to be turned into a symbol.

Yes. I don't know anyone, or have I seen anyone that even slightly resembles a model or celebrity. I see tons and tons of beautiful women, but none that look like a "standard" magazine cover.

Yes. But it is people who set the standards. People can also CHANGE the standards! Why is everyone dieting to lose weight instead of maintaining a normal, healthy weight???

I guess it just depends what kind of people you depend on to experience a fulfilling life. True individuals only go by the standards they set for themselves. Are those the kind of people you need in your life, or the kind of people who made you ask this question in the first place?

I don't think we have very high standards as opposed to some very twisted standards when it comes to appearance.
As far as general population- people are more and more taking less and less care of themselves, peoples dress is getting more and more casual to just plain trashy- as far as hollywood - there are very few really CLASSY actors and actresses that really have high standards when it comes to appearance. The resto f them have false, twisted and deceptive standards

yes I think so, to a degree it has alot to do with the celebs but I also think that the media and marketing pays a huge role when it comes to trends and so forth.

Personally I think as we evolve as a complex social creatures one would hope that balancing of the scales will occur so to speak.
