to the smart aleck before me you need to learn some respect for us older americans, we have paved the way for you, we have earned our right to do as we want in our golden years, and by God we deserve the respect from all you young ones who have a lot to learn about living & loving, and taking care of yourselves. We have got a right to do what ever we please and enjoy every damn minute of it. So go hang your hat somewhere else. We have earned our respect and paid the price for all of you. so be it.

It is not all the time that the young disrespect. I am 33 and I get crappy service all the time. Your meal could have been brought out by another because the girl could have been busy and maybe needed help getting it out. Were you the only ones there? Were there a lot of other people eating-large tables-etc. Maybe she was new..The restaurant could have been sectioned off-your waitress could have had your section and another person had the (good service section)..I do wait tables and give good service- I think you just had a bad expericance. Is this a restaurant you frequent or a new place? Find out who the manager-owner is and talk to them in a calm manner. You might get a gift certificate. I hope your next dining experiannce is better.

Depending on the type of restaurant, they may have been giving the younger kids quick service to get rid of them. My son manages a very nice restaurant and that's what they do. They want to make the dining experience more leisurely for the older people. Also, there's just some people who really should not be waiting tables. The turnover on that is just big time. I really doubt that it had anything to do with your age, unless you were rude to the waiter or waitress. These people make very little money, they mostly live on tips. A lot of them have to split tips at the end of the evening too. It's not your idea job by far.

two words: bad tips.
i'm not accusing you of being a bad tipper, but as someone with friends in the restaurant business, i have heard some say that older generations tip more poorly than younger people. please do not take this as any kind of an insult. i would assume in years past, tips would typically have been less because prices were lower... and some haven't adjusted their tip scale.
on the positive side--i know some folks who are in their 50s, 60s and 70s who leave HUGE tips. but i would guess this may be the reason for the poor service. waiters tend to spend more time on people they think will be big tippers and give them better service.

Unfortunately it's the culture that older people are not respected or valued, but ignored as in your case. People think the older ones are slower, too, and possibly the restaurant staff assumed the younger crowd wanted to move through quicker. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Have you done something to deserve respect?

Lasting 60+ years doesn't merit a person any sort of special treatment. And, unfortunately for you and those your age, our culture tends to value youthfullness more than age.

I'd say that if you make it past 79 (the average life span), that's deserving of some extra respect.

Keep in mind that if the waitress who served you was different than the one who served the younger folks, your comparison is invalid. Sometimes you get a crappy waitress. Where you sit generally determines which one you get.

Firstly, why don'y you old straps stay home on the weekend... you have all week to eat out, but us working people only get 2 nights a week.

Secondly, why do you old farts have to take the first doctor/dentist appointments of the day? These would be very convenient for working people to catch on their way to the office... but NO, you old geeks have to get up at the crack of dawn and get in our way during rush hour traffic.

You probably got bad service because old ghouls like you are notorious for "forgetting" to leave a tip.

Stay home and play pinochle on Saturday night and let the rest of us have ONE FREAKING DAY away from you blue hairs.

I know the feeling, I am 58 with high mileage.

I solved it for a while, I explained to a young man that he should treat senior citizens better than he did. He asked why. I explained that the older I became, the less significant "life without the possibility of parole" became. I did it with a straight face, no small task, and I think he believed me.

not me.........no disrespect from me.........the older the person the more time i spend with them in selections, and hot or cold drinks. I find that the older generation are better tippers too....i am no spring chicken and the younger ones have made snide comments that i could be faster if i was younger.....( maybe they should talk to the cook?) and i have had younger ones leave me only 2 cents and made the comment that they save the bucks for the young and pretty.........so yes........i agree, i also have gotten crappy service.........also when i returned something not cooked back it did not taste right....it tasted soapy.........so now, if i have to return something i ask for the manager..........and tell of my past experience with soapy tasting food..........and they usually supervise the returned order.........

my guess would be we are living in a very spoiled generation who have forgotten our manners and how to respect people... it's ok now to misbehave there are no more consequences for our actions we can either blame it on our parents or claim we need medication for our outbursts.
Either way it is a very bad situation we all need to sit back and remember how hard the elderly had to work to achieve the things we take for granted everyday
Yes you deserve respect and it would be nice if the people being disrespectful had to live one day in your shoes 30 years ago.... they might change their opinions of elderly people

I,am sorry to hear that, but why didn't you call for the manager's assistant ? I would !! You are paying for your meal, hence you deserve all the attention you need, specially when you are an older person, you should be respected even more.
