Most people are attracted to a song because of its message. Quite often, the message isn't immediately clear. After a while of listening to it, you get a sence of what its author was trying to say and you apply it to you life. Then is when you love the song. Interestingly enough, when ever the song is no longer applicable to you life, you lose interest. Then, there are those timeless songs that will always take you back to specific moments in your life. The timeless ones are usually songs that were playing during a emotional time in your life.

With some songs, I am that way as well. I don't think it is subliminal. Lets say, I hear a new song and I love it. It speaks to me and the lyrics are meaningful to me. I "get it."
Others songs.. don't seem to be so upfront. It takes awhile to "get it". Other times, I start associating the song with a certain event or time in my life and that gives it meaning to me.
It is a good sign that your tastes and opinions are not fixed. You are not stagnant, your mind is evolving.

The radio stations that play the same songs over and over again seem to be doing a good job at getting songs stuck in my head

hmmm... perhaps it is because you need to get used to the music and the beat of the song for a while. you need to get the music into u and in tune with the groove. i dun think it much as a brain wash. u have to admit that some songs regardless how many times we hear, we will still not like them.

I don't like to listen to new music myself, but after time, I like it sometimes. So, I'm kinda the same way. I"m not talking about songs on the radio, but CDs and such.....

maybe you hate them because you're told to like them by the masses (ie: radio, billboard top 100, mtv, vh1) ...then once you calm down and actually listen to the song you can then decide if you really like it or not...without extra pressures to conform?

Its brainwashing. I have started liking a song when other people are getting tired of it.
