It was a top of the line model, now it is like 4-5 years old. Noticeable drop off. Also, how much might this cost?

Window AC's are hermetically sealed, usually with no service valve's. While it is possible to add refrigerant, you need to look at the big picture. First, it would only need to be charged if it has a leak somewhere, which is going to be an expense to find and fix. Second, as stated before, service valves would need to be added (another expense).

I would try cleaning the filter and the coils first. If that doesn't help, just remember it might cost you 1/2 or more of the expense of buying a new one just to fix the old one.

Good luck.

You may be able to have it recharges if it need freon, but it will be hard to find an a/c guy that will service a window unit. Also, they will want to look at it to see if anything else is wrong. My dad owns an a/c shop. Just toss it and buy a new one.

Have you cleaned the filter? 4-5 years isn't that old.
