Clinton knew well enough to leave things alone for the first 6 years of his presidency. The last two, when he started worring about his legacy, he started monkeying with it. His lawsuit against Microsoft popped the dot-com bubble, the stock market tumbled the SAME DAY the verdict aginst microsft came in. The surplus was based on projections that if the economy stayed on it's current course. It didn't, and he left office as a recession was starting.
No president has a "magic economy switch" his policies take years before the economy sees it's effects. Most people don't understand this.
As for peace, we were attacked by terrorists numerous times and nothing was done. Each time it was treated as if it were a law enforcement issue. Under Bush, we have been attacked ONCE, and you have seen the response.

Each time the Clinton was confronted with a major terrorist attack — the February 26, 1993, bombing of the World Trade Center, the Khobar Towers attack, the August 7, 1998, bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the October 12, 2000, attack on the USS Cole — he was preoccupied with his own political fortunes instead of giving serious and sustained attention to fighting terrorism. That would be the peace?

Enron not only donated $100,000 to Clinton's 1993 inauguration but, according to the records, also added an additional $25,000 to the Clinton 1993 celebrations. Not to mention donations from other felons. Would that be the prosperity?

No, I don't. Bill Clinton had more examples where he elected to use military force than any other president. I'm talking number of times he went the military route, not number of bullets, etc from a decision. The political climate that we're in was'nt an overnight thing. It's common to blame a president for pots that come to a boil while they're in office, but that pot was put on the burner by the president before. We've been seen as week and impotent in response to terrorists: Uss. Cole, Tanzania, Saudi Embassy, etc. et al. NONE of these attacks had a realistic response. We simply turned the other cheek.
WIth Saddam, he REPEATEDLY thumbed his nose at the U.N. mandates he agreed to. Turning away inspectors, then finally ejecting them from his country altogether. Then his "oil for food" scandals. This program was enacted to let him use his country's one resource be used to keep his people alive, and prevent him from adopting an "oil for guns" arraingment. What did we do? Nothing. Saddam, and the world looked at the repeated "one more chance to behave" stance Clinton took as being identical to that of a parent who never follows through. Their kids become delinquents because they know theyll never be disciplined.
The 8 years of peace with Clinton were'nt peaceful. His impotent foreign policy is a direct cause of the issues we face today. This is'nt to say that i''m rootin for ole G.W. Bush. I have as little trust for that man as I did for Slick Willy Clinton.

Yeah there is a lot of peace when you are afraid to fight. Even when we are attacked. several times have already been mentioned in this thread. Also prosper? You bet we prospered. There was plenty of money around. That's what happens when you close the bases and not have to pay a military. Like some of our neighbors. Oh yeah an when we don't have to pay for spies that could let us know that Bin Laden was going to do something. and don't give me bush was in office 8 months by than. It took longer than that to replace the furniture the Clinton's stold. Oh and guess what? I voted for him both times!!!!!!!

I'm reminded of an old joke I heard, when Bill recieved a phone call one day, while he was in the Oval Office making some monumental decisions. Earlier in the day he had made some snide comment about something Hillary had done, and when she called she had the receptionist put her right through. The receptionist, thinking he would recognize her voice, did so and then hung up. When he answered, she lit into him something fierce. She called him everything she could think of, used every swear word she could muster and just generally berated him for nearly 5 min's, without mercy. Then when she was finished, she said, "Now just what do you have to say for yourself??", and he said sheepishly into the phone, "Who is this???/"
I remember more about the fact that no woman was safe with him around.

Ahhh at last a smart one. Yes i do remember i was just a young boy but i remember gas being .98 cents a gallon - 1.25 a gallon. Low taxes, manageable economy, low terrorism rates and other countries actually respected us instead of laughing at us. We will be a great country once again. Vote Hillary Clinton, women are the glue which holds this world together, they are the foreman's that keep us men from screwing up everything around us.

The rich and blood-thirsty didn't have it, that's why they have a fit about those 8 years. Now they are happy because gays don't get married, we have some songs about kicking people's asses, and have the rest of the world pissed at us because the prez thinks he can bully everyone. I can't wait until he's out of office, and maybe we can get this country on the right track again....

To rukidding below me: Remember a balanced budget? Remember Republicans stating Clinton was corrupt? What's going on in the White House now? Start remembering that...

Yes, that was created by Ronald Reagan and done so well that Clinton got a free ride on it. Clinton created the mess that Bush has to deal with today.

Yes, those were the days my friend. Sadly, there are a still a few Bush apologists who will harp on his personal peccadilloes, a few who think travel gate was a big deal and that Clinton had something to do with Vince Foster's suicide. I noticed one fool harped at our troops still being in Bosnia. How can Bush supporters still think it is okay to borrow $300,000,000 to fight a war of uncertain outcome based on deciept and misinformation?
