I am having two laptops - lp1 (XP Home) which is wirelessly connected to the internet through a router and another lp2 (2K Pro , this does not have wireless card) I need lp2 to connect to the internet through lp1 using a crossover cable

Any inputs highly appreciated, on how to go about configuring

just connect both to the router. you are making this more difficult than it needs to be. The one without the wireless card, either get a card or just put it into the router with a cat5 cable. the one that already has the card, will continue to go through the router.

Open the network setup wizard (set up a home or small office network) with both the wireless and wired nic enabled on LP1 and just tell it all other computers use this computer as the gateway. It will pretty much handle it from there.

If your router has wireless capabilities, you can get a usb wireless adapter that plugs into your computer, but make sure that you follow the directions
