Multitask as in doing more than one task at the same time.

I'm not convinced that it is actually possible to do more than one thing at the same time - only to switch rapidly back and forth between different tasks - at least if we are talking about tasks that involve your conscious attention. However, there is an overhead in doing this - in switching your context between the different tasks that you are doing - and it is much more effective to concentrate on a single thing for a longer period of time.

Conventional wisdom would say that that is a male perspective on things, and that women apparently are far more able to multitask than men. I have yet to see any evidence to support this, but am curious to see if any of the answers to your question have anything to add.

i can muliti task on some thing lol but i'll be damned if i can't on others...i'm very good at that whole chewing gum and walking thing lol...i never did get that one always seemed rather unusual to me..but hey who am i to judge maybe people out there really can't do it....i also find that i can not do my homework unless i multi task lol...i either have to be watching tv or listening to music to concentrate on what i'm doing...sounds crazy but i can't work in silence...silence scares me lol ;)...i'm also good at multi tasking at my job which is a server and or cook at the time...because you have to be in like a million places at once so i'm used to it..i love those high stress jobs,.after all i have to prepare for teaching kindergarteners...that will be a trip lol...the one thing i can not multi task for the life of me though is talking on the phone and computer at the same time...i have to stop and think of what i'm trying to say to who lol...when i try to multi task talking i guess you could say i have the attention span of a squirrel lol...

Pretty much all the time. I have to be doing a lot of tasks or I get bored.

Being a single parent of three children I have no choice but to multi-task :-)

yes, somethings better than others I might say.
I can cook and do laundry. But I can't cut grass and do laundry. I can talk on the phone, dust and let the dog in and out....but hey I'm working at it.
