I have a Siemens SCALEO Home PC

Thanks Joe C - the reason is that the BIOS update allows better USB2.0 handling, and I use external HDDs (on various computers)on a regular basis, but experience problems from time to time with the Siemens computer.

If you really must up-date the BIOS ( last resort action as already stated ) pop over to your PC manufacturers / motherboard manufacturers site (s) and firstly download and read thoroughly the instructions. Once you've read them, read them again.....and again....and again...until you can recite them back perfectly ( screw this up and you dont have a PC, just an expensive door-stop )
When you have the routine all memorised then you can download the BIOS update and apply it as per the memorised 'I can do this in my sleep' instructions.
You'll probably find it involves making a boot floppy with the up-date on and running at boot....after, of course, making all the necessary back-ups.

Before you do all this though, I'd advise you search for any known issues with your PC / existing BIOS at microsoft.com etc... it could very well be an operating system problem error rather than a BIOS related problem---without specific details of what your problems are we can't give you any 'cast iron' advice, and the routine for 'flashing' a BIOS often differs not only in BIOS vendor, but motherboard manufacturer / PC vendor too.

All modern Biostar motherboards feature the Flasher technology for easy BIOS updating. If you have a legacy board, please download the Award flashing utility and follow the instructions in the README.TXT file instead. The procedure below does not apply to legacy boards.

Most motherboards' BIOS files have the BIN extension. Some do not (for instance, NCD1208.BSP, NHA0302.BF, etc). Regardless of its extension, after downloading the BIOS file is ready to use as-is. You do not need to do any kind of decompression or extraction.

Download the BIOS file then save it to a floppy disk. Restart your computer. Enter the CMOS setup by pressing at the POST or Biostar splash screen. Make sure the disk is in your floppy drive, choose "Upgrade BIOS" from the CMOS Setup main menu. The Flasher utility will automatically detect and highlight the BIOS file. Make sure the BIOS file (in this case VIT0312B.BIN) is highlighted and press Enter. Answer Y when prompted "Are you sure to flash?". After the flashing is done, reset the computer and enter CMOS setup again. This time choose "Load Optimized Defaults" from the main menu. Finally, hit F10 to save and exit.

BIOS update is complete.

once you start up your computer and it say the brand name, for example, it says dell. Yours will probally say Siemens. But as it's displaying the brand name then press delete and that should send you to the BIOS

well first of all why do you want to? the only reason to update your BIOS is if your computer isnt functioning correctly on boot. its not gonna make your computer faster, its just something that comes with the computer.
