I don't think it's always a conscious decision made by women to look older than they are, but the daily stressors some combat, along with lifestyles they lead (relative to diet, exercise, etc.) can really age a woman well beyond her ears. Do you have children? Do you live in an urban environment? Have you lived a hard lifestyle in which you've had to endure a lot of stress from your job, or to achieve the level at which you are now? I'm not being judgmental, but these are the things you have to keep in mind when thinking about how some women "age" better than others?
I don't think anyone ever sees how "old" they look until others bring it up or point it out to them. Most of us can probably still look in the mirror and see ourselves as the younger persons we once were.

I don't know, but I think it's incredibley annoying and disgusting when women (and men) don't take care of themselves, and then end up being unhealthy and fat and gross. It especially annoys and disgusts me when I see a young child (between the ages of 7 and 13 or so) who is fat and unhealthy. I don't understand how parents and the child could get that way. Don't their parents even care? How could they watch their precious child get bigger and bigger and more unhealthy each day, and just continue giving them unhealthy foods and letting them eat whatever they feel like whenever they feel like, and then to top it off dont even encourage their kids to be active and/or exercise. As you get older, I think that people are in the mind of "Well, I'm going to look like crap anyways, I might as well stop trying". I cannot stand unhealthy, fat, people. They need to stop eating and start exercising. I am 17 and sure I'm not even an adult, but people need to stay fit. I'm 5'2" and pounds, and I've never been over 95 pounds, and iwould never let myself become obese. It's all about self control.

Probably many reasons. They are probably lazy, don't have the time, don't have the energy, simply don't care, don't think it's really something of importance to them, don't think anyone else cares or would notice, or feels that they already did the work and got the prize (i.e. a husband), so now it's not needed. Some people are simply born frumpy. Why try to fight nature?

i think that a lot of men let themselves go as well. If I have to look at another beer belly lapping over the belt of some middle aged man, I'll scream.
Any woman who looks frumpy probably has some man at home who looks like s**t too. So they're perfect for each other.

It's good that you take care of yourself and try to look your best, more power to you. But please don't judge others for "letting themselves go." Unless one is a natural knockout, it takes a lot of work to look nice!
Sometimes it is a matter of priority. For example, some women might spend most of their time, money, and energy on their families, while putting aside their own needs and wants. Hopefully the family is appreciative enough to treat her to a spa day every once in a while or at least encourage her to take some time for herself.
Personally, I hate wearing makeup. Because I work marketing I wear just a little because I look more professional if I do. It's unfair that guys aren't expected to spend so much time and energy to look nice, but at least women are allowed a little more creativity in terms of what is considered professional dress.

I am 26 but I can say that I let myself go when I am down in the dumps. Whenever I get depressed I don't care how I dress or look but as I get better I start to care again. I guess you don't care because you are showing how you feel about yourself and don't care how other people see you. That's how I feel.
For some I guess it's comfort.

I agree. I am 34 and I did let myself go a bit after having my son 7 years ago. I was tired and soo busy. If women could only remember that they are human too and need time for themselves and deserve to take that time!! I now go for regular hair appointments as well as a bikini wax and pedicure. I feel better than my 20's!

Not just women do it. Men too. I think there are several reasons. I know when i was dating men i was the thinest i have ever been. But now i am in a very comfortable and loving relationship and we (both him and I) have without knowing it, let ourselves go a little. Needless to say we are definately on to that having recognised it. So I think with a little effort it doesn't have to be that way.

Everybody's priorities are different, some women think that feeding their kids and doing laundry is more important than fixing their hair. Some just don't care what people think and do whatever is comfortable and SOME women believe in a religion that teaches them: no haircuts, long skirts, no makeup, nothing flashy/trendy.
