Determine what system you have and do a search on that on Dell's web site under the Support and Download section. Find the updated drivers for your sound card, download, install, and hope all is well. If that still doesn't work, actually go to My Computer, view system information, check the hardware tab and see if your sound card is listed with errors. If you have the original drivers on CD, just re-install the drivers. This is assuming everything is plugged in correctly and nothing is muted. *wink*

First, try the simple stuff.
Go to Start, then Control Panel. If you have the Category View, Click Sounds, Speech, and audio Devices. Then click Sounds and Audio Devices (Or, if you have the classic view, click Sounds and audio devices.)
at the top of the window that comes up, click Audio, then click volume under DEFAULT DEVICE. Make sure none of the MUTEs are checked. If it is checked, that could be the problem.
But, if that is not the problem, call the customer service for the company that makes your computer (it sounds like you have dell) and tell them your problem. They can take you from there.
