I think it should be even higher than $8.35. I would love to see these politicians try to raise their families on what some people do making minimum wage right now of $5.15. If I understand correctly, some states choose to set their own minimum wage if they wish to go higher than the federal one. And the federal minimum wage hasn't changed since 1997. Do you think lawmakers would go 9 years without a raise?

Minimum wage should be higher than $8.35 depending on where you live. 8.35p/h roughly comes out to about 16,000 a yr you wont be able to survive off of this wage if you live in a big city or even if you lived in a small town with a family you would be pinching pennies. I doubt an increase in the minimum wage to 8.35 will happen soon hell it took NY forever to raise the minimum wage from 5.15 to 6.25 this is y it is important to secure your future so u wont have 2 worry bout penny pinching

TD hit it right. It should be enough to live on, especially around Washington DC. It ain't cheap around here. In my oppinion, however, the minimum wage just can't be any higher than what it already is. My pay was reduced recently from $8/hr. to $6/hr, simply because the company I work for couldn't afford to keep the pay rate the same. Not going into specifics, it was something like we weren't pulling enough work to meet the bills or something. The taxes don't help, either. If the federal minimum wage was increased to just over $8/hr, I'm certain that many of our country's small businesses would go bankrupt/close down completely because the Government taxes the piss out of them. It's not that easy living off of $267.20 per week ($334.00-$66.80 in taxes [they take about 8 hrs from each paycheck]=$267.20 [rough estimates]), but it'd be a start.
**** this governmental bullshit! I'm movin' to New Zealand!

No, right now it is $5.15. It will not be $8.35 for about 250 years. You must be living in a dream world.

It doesn't really matter what minimum wage is. The higher it goes the higher the prices go to compensate for it. Until they start giving huge raises like they give our Senators, nothing is enough.

It should be at least 10$! In Chicago it now is above $9 for certain types and sizes of businesses - google the news.

I think that is should, but if it goes that high there will be a lot of small locally owned businesses that have to close from lack of funding...

Then they just raise the cost of everything. It is a vicious cycle. We have serious problems here.
