The oil in your engine collects carbon and acidic by products of combustion minute metal particles from the moving parts and the associated heat. All this leads to the break down of the lubricating properties of the oil. The acid build up in the oil leads to faster wear of the moving engine parts reducing the life of the engine with out a regular oil change interval of 3000 miles or three month (to reduce damage from the acid build up in the oil). This preventative maintenance is to get the most miles out of the engine. Some engines with regular maintenance will go some 200 to 300 thousand before they start to smoke. Neglected engines may last only 100 thousand miles till they start smoking out the tail pipe.

The Other Answers are Correct as well. But, after You Remove the Oil Drain Plug, and Filter, wait awhile. That Narrow, almost Pencil Lead Thin Stream of Oil coming out is full of Contaminants. If You can do it, let Your Car sit there for about a 1/2 Hour or so to get as much of the Old Oil out as Possible. A "Quick-Change" Shop won't do this, and they'll tell You it isn't needed. Just get most of the Oil out. Also, if You can do it, Fill Your New Oil Filter up at least 1/2 way before You Spin it on. If it goes on at an Angle, Fill it a little less so no Oil will Spill out when You put it on. If it goes on Straight upside down, Fill it all the way. This helps to get the Fresh Oil into the Vital Parts of Your Engine as rapidly as Possible. Again, most "Quick Change" Shops won't do this. Hope this helps !

Well, it really should be 3 months or 5000 miles whichever comes first. The reason it needs to be done is because of the heat that the motor gets to breaks down the ability of the oil to lubricate (I just love that word don't you?) and it also picks up gross sludge which have gritty little particles in them and it's just nasty. I think the synthetic oil works better on the engines, but I'm just a woman! What would I know about changing oil. especially when I'm trying to tell my half drunk dill hole of an old man that I just got back from the store about twenty minutes b4 he went to get the stuff out of the garage to change the oil. He kept interrupting me and then he said SHUT UP, so I like did. Then he was screaming about the oil being so hot. I said I tried to tell you, but what do I know I'm just a stupid old blond headed woman.

"finished engine flush" is what precisely? Engines carry oil so isn't an oil substitute an "engine flush" or did they actually flush the radiator coolant (which additionally flows by using aspects of the engine)? Regardless, 15K sounds like low mileage to be aggravating approximately having to scrub the gasoline equipment (until you're employing an rather grimy style of gasoline). Had you spotted any hesitation or different issues of the automobile? For $one hundred eighty i'd say you will probable been greater helpful off identifying to purchase a gasoline equipment cleanser off the self of you vehicle aspects keep. I oftentimes use those as quickly as a 300 and sixty 5 days and function had no issues of the gasoline equipment of my 'ninety two avert Stealth (I only had the gasoline injectors wiped sparkling as quickly as because of fact of a few hesitation while employing - that became in the previous i began out employing the gasoline equipment cleaners).

the oil in your engine lubricates all the parts that connect together. this minimizes friction and heat.. but the neat properties of oil degrade while doing it's job.. while keeping all the parts working well and flushing out all the gunk into the filter, it loses it's effectiveness.. 3000 - 5000 mile oil & filter changes should keep your engine and warranty happy... ALWAYS follow your owners manual with a new car..

1) the oil deteriorates from the heat of the engine

2) it picks up tiny bits of metal from the engine parts abrading one another.

If you look at the oil that is flushed you will see that it is very dark, possibly stickier than the fresh oil, and perhaps contains bits of metal. You don't want that in your engine. Anyway, you know how nicely the car purrs just after an oil change. And it should be every 3,000 miles, as every answerer has noted.

without draining and flushing you'll just keep swirling around used oil. that oil collects debris and gunk that will kill your engine. flushing it out and replacing the filter is MANDATORY for every single oil change you do. otherwise it's like flushing a clogged toilet, won't really do much when you flush except swirl all the little goodies around.

Because it gets dirty and doesn't do as good a job as it does when it's clean. And it's every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.
