You misunderstand what it means when scientists say that space is flat. You are thinking of a flat piece of paper, which is two dimensional. The scientists are talking about whether the three dimensions are curved or not. SInce it is three dimensional and the sun in *in* space, there is no orientation relative to the sun (or earth, or anything else in the universe). All the it means to say that space is flat is that Eucliden geometry works (rather than a generalization of spherical geometry, say).

Space is not flat. There are places online (I'm lazy) where you can find 3-D maps that have been made of the galaxies we've observed and their relative positions in the Universe.

Space is not flat, it is a three dimensional void which extends (apparently to infinity) in all directions. However, most of the planets in our solar system are located near what is called the Plane of the Ecliptic.

Space is not flat. It is sort of like a shphere in that if you got all the way to one end (which of course you couldn't) you'd be right back where you started.
