On Earth -- as in on Earth's surface, the deepest part of our ocean, namely The Challenger Deep, Marianas Trench, Pacific Ocean, at the depth of 35,797 feet (10,911 meters.)
It has only been visited once by man, in the record setting deep dive of the Trieste submersible in 1960. More recently, in 1995, a Japanese unmanned submersible ventured into the Deep.
In Earth, as in the Earth itself, the deepest depth man has plumbed is more than 40,000 feet (12 km) in a single drill hole (Russian Kola Peninsula). In short, we have barely scratched the surface of our planet.
