she laughed at me and said she was going to tell her mom. She said she was 16 and that is too old to get spanked. I might end up spanking the mom is she comes over here again. Is this socially acceptable in the states?

Dickbiggenstein, no. I give you props for having the nerve to DO it, but you shouldn't honey. Unless you are a VERY close friend of the family, they can charge you with assult. Big ups, though Dickbiggs, but you'd better not do it again.

Yikes! No you can't go around spanking other people's children. That will land you in jail. Especially if she's 16 and you happen to be of the male gender. What you should do is go over and talk to her parents about what she's doing to annoy or bother you and ask that parent to put an end to it. If it doesn't work, file a complaint with your local police department and have them stop the bad behavior. There's a reason why they say "Fences make the best neighbors"! Good luck.

No you can't spank other neighbor's kids. That's a good way to get sued in America. If they are on your property or doing damage you can still get sued and still lose. At 16 it is pushing it to get spanked. Some teens will even hit their parents. I strongly believe in spanking younger kids, with a paddle even. My parents did all the time when I was young I've never had any acting out problems, drug problems, or behavior problems as a teen. People like Dr. Phil need to be shot. He isn't even a REAL doctor. Kind of shows you how Americans are trying to get problems solved by the media.

Talk to the mom. I don't spank unruly neighbors kids. On the spot I just tell them not to do it but when I meet the mom, I insert her kid's misdemeanor into the conversation. She should get the hint. Preserves relationship with the neighbors and promotes peace and harmony in the neighborhood. We have to live with these people for a long time so it's much better if we avoid conflict.

Spanking someone Else's kid is child abuse. And, if you get very cranky with the mom, that's anything from harassment to assault. If these kids parents want to press charges, social acceptability is the least of your worries.

No, hun. If that mother decided to press charges she could. You have no right to spank other people's kids unless they give you permission.
