I personally feel the exorbitant salaries the players receive are not justified. I also feel many of them try to evade paying taxes as best as they can and some of them do not even pay taxes. Bechkam has amassed so much wealth in such short period of time which I think is astounding. I also feel the high salaries and the luxurious life may cause gradual decline in the performance of players. Again these are just my thoughts and I could very well be wrong. I would like to hear from you folks about your personal opinion on this matter. Do you think they should be paid such huge amount of salary or should they be paid just like any other regular employee ( gov. officers, teachers, scientists, nurses, bank emloyees, postal service workers ).

I feel teachers, govt. officers, nurses and even the person mopping the sidewalks is contributing to us to our society a whole lot more than the players as they only entertain us but does not contribute to the society in any way.

I have to say it once again I have never been so impressed with any reply than I am right now after I read Hugo Reyes's reply . You have pointed out a very grim but honest picture of our life.

As a public school science teacher, I personally think that they deserve every penny that they earn. I mean they certainly are more important than me and my colleagues. I know that they also spend far more time working than I do-- I only work 10-15 hrs/day grading papers, teaching, prepairing for class, talking w/parents, providing extra help. They kick a soccer ball. I think thats MUCH more difficult and much more important than what we do.

It is totally justified since their salaries are determined by the marketing department, not by the human resources one.

These people make a lot because the make their teams to make a lot more than that.

Sounds terrible for the rest of us, who have to work a lot without extra payment, but that's the way it is.

And salaries in footbal are not as high as the ones paid in NFL or NBA. Do you remember Jordan's salary? that was considered the highest all over the world in that time.

So, as usual, we have to keep on working as we do now or we have to look for a job where you work a little and get paid a lot.

The source i'm sending may lead to a better understanding of this subject. I liked it.

I think they fully desrve what they get! Just look how much time Beck's, for example, spends practicing, running around the field all day long! And by the way all those players have to end their careers when they are approximately 35. It's not like they get their money for nothing. They get it for their talent. If u watch at least one game of Beckham or Ronaldo and u get it all.

are u jealous! I agree that's like wasting money. but that's because of their hard work. by the way it increases competition in soccer coz the young and new players will dream of a dream.the kind of money they bring to a club is more than their salaries. so don't blame them. blame their bosses and the fans(starting with urself) for committing themselves so much to the game. nobody has stopped anybody from taking that profession, so just live with it.

That was awsome Hugo Reyes. I think they make too much money. When it all comes down to nothing, they don't make enough of a difference in the world to make that money.

im from the US and i no that most of our players who even play in different sports earn wayy more then they do and i dont think its right. other people have to go out and work their asses off at jobs that most of them hate to support their family and not get paid anything and these guys get to do what they love and become millionaires from it. and i noticed that the rich people who can afford expensive stuff always gets free stuff from designers...but the people who dont have a lot of money never get help from anyone.

no. 104 mil (US dollars) a year? you kidding.that's Ronaldinho's salary. he currently surpassed Beckham and became the highest paid footballer.of course they're over paid! what did they do except really cool moves, (some) dive, help win WC titles, rep countries.they don't benifit the community doing what they do.actually i think Ronaldinho's the Highest paid Athelete.

No, very few soccer players have more than five or so great years. Problem is, fans are stupid enough and management dumb enough to throw money at seeing them, even when past their prime.
