Nope. The closest I have Been to India is every time I have to call Microsoft for a software problem. After about 45 minutes of trying to speak to someone that can't understand or speak English I have no desire to visit.

Was in India, Madras, in the late 50's as a child. Really good and back whilst working in shipping in the 70's. I thought that the place was great, but then I knew people and friends in India tend to be friends for life. However as a visitor apart from the interest in the main sites I would think that the culture change would be very difficult, especially the beggars, but it is a great country and English is the business language so most middle class and above Indians speak it so you should have no trouble communicating. PS if you do go don't give money to beggars or you will never get rid of them as they usually go for the tourists, it's hard I know but you must be firm on this point.

I spent almost a year there about 30 years ago and I loved it! It is one of my all time favorite places on Earth.
Someone said "its like Mexico" I now live with my family here in Mexico and I consider that remark to be a compliment to both countries!
The food of India is simply without compare anywhere. And it varies greatly from Punjab to Bengal down to Mumbai and Madras, every area of the country has very different styles of cooking and food preparation.
I also found the Indian people like the Mexicans to be extremely warm and generous to others, especially strangers.
Sure there are beggars and those whose living is to "fleece" the tourist, (just as there are in Seattle or Paris) but I have also been invited to spend the night in a small two room house with no electricity by a railway worker and his family when all the hotels in Patna were closed and then practically had to force him to take a few rupees to buy us some breakfast (chapatis, mango and yogurt) the next morning.
India is an ancient civilization and in my opinion a beautiful one as well, as is the entire country.........
I long to return with my family one day (soon I hope), if you visit, you won't be sorry......

Yes I have been to INdia.
It is my original home. We were ousted. Yeah. Well a lot of people move out of india for various reasons some of which are oppression by muslims.
My family moved to find a better life and we are still roaming.
Yes I have been to India because it is my original home and I dont know when I will be able to return for good.
What makes me sad is that so much criminality takes place in the world and yet we carry on as though nothing has happened.
People have had to leave their homes only to find that they have landed themselves in a place where even bigger human rights violations have taken place and so it makes me very nostalgic about india.
It is a great country. You have to know how to look at it, learn it and know it. You have to know India's heart.
I love my country and I dont know when I will be back but it is acountry that will teach you a lot if you want to learn it.

ham an Indian and living here for last thirty years. This is a beautiful country in its special way. Lot of sunshine, very long seashore, much diversity in nature and people alike. From snow capped Himalayas to rain forest Kerala and from hot deserts of Rajastan to green hills of North east states. Same is true for people. From beggars to Billionaires, Hindu yogis to Buddhist monks and Christian preachers to Muslim clergies.
Now some practical issues which may interest u. India is a very cheap country to travel and stay. For 50 bucks(USD) u can live like a king with all modern and hygienic amenities. India is a thriving economy and undergoing a big transformation. The medical facilities and expertise is one of the best in world and thousand travel to India for medical treatment at affordable rates.
U may here lots of myths about beggars, snake charmers and unhygienic food and water. But remember the average crime rate is much lower than most of the western countries and all of S America and Africa. There r some beggars but surely no muggers. The spicy and healthy Indian food is making news in the world. There r lots of websites about India . Go thru them first and make a informed decision.
