The name was inspired by Artis the Spoonman, a street performer from Santa Cruz, California and later Seattle, who played music with a set of spoons.

Feel the rhythm with your hands
Steal the rhythm while you can, spoonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
Speak the rhythm all alone, spoonman

Spoonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
Save me

All my friends are Indians
All my friends are brown and red, spoonman
All my friends are skeletons
They beat the rhythm with their bones, spoonman

Feel the rhythm with your hands
Steal the rhythm while you can, spoonman

Thank you, good night people

man playing the spoons? well i think in the video theres a man playing the spoons

This is about a street artist named Artis the Spoonman, who played the spoons on the streets of Seattle. Artis is in the song playing the spoons at one point. It is mixed into the background, but it's there. He is also the feature of the video, with the band members opting to have a smaller role.

People used to play the spoons. Basically you get a couple spoons and hold then so that you have a finger in between the handles. You then tap them on different areas of your body to produce a clacking. You use the free hand for the upstroke.

Not used too much anymore but some street performers still do it for money.

I think it's about a guy who plays bongos or something with spoons. I think that's what I heard when it came out years ago.
