No, but the US should start throwing its weight around and acting like a superpower. No great nation ever accomplished anything by apologizing for its power. To start with, since we pay well over 25% of the bill, the US should demand the right to name the next Secretary-General. No person from the US has ever been even considered for the post, and it's long past our turn to lead.
Second, the US should require that any nation or person leading any UN agency is subject to US approval, scrutiny, and if necessary removal at our sole discretion.
Third, the infantile and arrogant behavior of UN personnel in the US should be subject to some immediate and extremely harsh toilet training - starting with the expulsion of all foreign nationals of any nation whose representative abuses our hospitality, or dares to threaten the US while standing on our turf.
Lastly, its time to take France and Russia off their permanent seats on the Security Council - France has degenerated into a nation of two-faced appeaser p*ssies, and the USSR no longer exists. Japan and India should take their places. Only nations with elected representative governments should be allowed to sit on the Security Council even as temporary members.

No. The United States is one of the controlling powers of the United Nations, as a permanent member of the Security Council.
The day to day politics that you read about is insignificant to the positive things that the UN does every day. While world peace is a lofty goal; curing disease, helping to end poverty, identifying world problems is something that goes on all the time.
Just as 2000 approached, the United Nations passed the Millennium Development Goals. These 8 goals were agreed upon by the nations that make up the General Assembly. This body of governments decided to take a positive step toward a global unity against these eight issues that prevent a unified world.
Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Hunger and Poverty
Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education
Goal 3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality
Goal 5: Improve Maternal Health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
Doesn't this seem like a good start?

The US was instrumental in forming the United Nations--and we have special status in all facets of the UN. The fact that the UN is located in New York, gives this nation even more special status in the world. I don't think with all of the special status that the US has with the UN that the problem is the UN. . .it seems that the US must not be doing something right if its having problems with the world community--or the UN. What other country exerts more influence than the US on the UN?

The US is part of the UN, but my understanding is that their are way behind in their dues. If that is true, I wonder why?.\
I think the UN headquarter should be moved, they are too comfortable in NY. Should be some place where they do not want to go out or can not go out so that they can do their bloody *** job.

Being the worlds sole superpower, it is best for the US to stay in the United Nations.
It would screw a lot of things up if the US were to leave the UN. It would be seen as an evil superpower by extremists even more if it left the community.

The U.S. cannot be isolationist. The U.S. tried that approach after WW I and look what happened the rise of Hitler and Japanese aggresion in Asia. If the U.S. had been in the League of Nations, it might have been a great counter weight to Germany and Japan. Then again it might not have changed anything. We will never know.

No, as worthless as the UN is, it would be worse if we dropped out of it. We donate 20% and all the unpaid parking tickets they can run up, along with drug running, murder, and a building which they want remodeled. Believe it not, they would go to a whole new level of corrupt if we were no longer in the picture.
