your water can break anytime...some womens break and they dont actually go into labor for a couple hours...some dont break until the babys head comes out..some doctors will do it manually to help speed up labor ..there is no wrong time or right time (unless its way to early in gestation) for the water to break.

In my first pregnancy I started to dilate a little around three days before my water broke at 3am.I haven't had any pain or contractions before my water broke but when it did the contractions started slowly almost straitaway.
With my second pregnancy my water did't brake at all at home but the contractions started when I went to bd at 9pm and 5 minutes later contractions started bang bang very strong. In half an hour we went to hospital because of a scar from my previous caesar(to monitor me) and in about 45 minutes after first contraction I was already 7 cm dilated and my water still didn't brake so it depends and everytime could be diferentI think the babies will became less active during contractions but I can't tell you for sure because once I have had contractions I could not feel anything else and frankly I could not be bothered about my baby if it moves, hartbeat or anything else because my labours always went hard and fast so I was in my own little world.
Anyway If you are pregnant I wish you easy labor and a healthy beautiful child

Once your water breaks, means baby on its way..and you should be making a trip to the hospital. Doctors like to deliver within a certain time period once the water has broken regardless if one is dilated or not (they will give you some meds for that, don't worry..induce labor) Babies do not become more active, they are preparing themselves to be delivered (so they should be making way into the canal..if they have dropped properly) but every pregnancy is not alike, some might have experienced activity others may not. As always, with any concerns, contact your physician or nurse.

Your water shouldn't break until you've been in labor for a while and you are already at the hospital...and I do believe babies become more active after contractions...if you think your water has broken, you should go to the hospital right away.

Your water breaks before your are dialated. My broke 28 yeras ago yesterday in Macy's as I was purcahsing a tablecloth for a dinner party I giving the next day! My understanding from my experience is that a baby becomes more active as you become more dialated. after all they kicked, water broke...they start working there way out.

It can happen when you are not dialated at all, or you may need a doctor to break your water while you are in active labor nearing delivery.
