Personally I hope so because he is too much like Mulrooney in his yes sir attitude to the US and look what happened to his government - reduced to 4 seats - Is Harper next?

Earlier in the week, Bloc Québécois leader Giles Duceppe and interim Liberal leader Bill Graham criticized Harper's response to the Middle East crisis, saying the prime minister had abandoned Canada's historic role as a peacekeeper.

Quebec is more anti-Israel than the rest of Canada. Harper will probably lose votes there but will gain votes from Jews who typically vote Liberal. He might not get the majority government that he wants but he probably won't get replaced.

Why does everyone call Harper an American? This is the same person who was in the United Kingdom praising Winston Churchill and meeting with our Queen and wanting to promote more ties with the British. Besides 85% of our exports go to the USA having bad relations with our neighbour will do us no favours. Why should Canada always be a neutral country? We are already involved in Afghanistan anyway and the grits committed us to that mission. Israel should be allowed to defend itself especially when the Lebanon government wouldn't put a stop to it and its president even supports Hezbollah. The PM even gave up his personnel aeroplane to bring Canadians home I doubt any other person would have done that. I think his government is doing a fairly good job and will probably get my support next election.

I dunno, I am a strong NDP supporter and I was terrified of Stephen Harper, however, it seems to me that he and his government is turning out to be a lot better than I could have ever expected. We are still known as peacekeepers though. I just don't expect us to waltz into the middle east and find peace because it's simply too dangerous at this point and would easily throw Canada into the war. The whole role of Canada is to keep the peace, not to insue it - that will have to be the role of those countries to find a truce.
