Marshall farms (biggest supplier of ferrets) tattoos their ferrets ears...it means they are spayed/neutered and decented. I'm not sure if other ferret farms do this as well, but I know Marshalls does.....I have 2 ferrets that came from there.

Heres a link to their site just to back up what I said is correct...

They are tattoos and, no, they won't go away. As others already mentioned, some large-scale breeders will tattoo their ferrets after they've been neutered and descented. Where did you get your ferret? If you got it from a pet shop, then you should have been given some papers that came from the breeder. Most ferrets with the two ear dots come from Marshall Farms. I say "most" because I've heard that Triple F Farms is tattooing their ferrets the same way. I'm not sure if that's true, I don't have any ferrets from TF, but this is what I've heard from other TF ferret owners. Again, if you got your ferret from a pet shop, you should have also been given some papers that would tell you what breeder it came from. Those papers would also mention what the ear dots are for. Congrats on the new addition and good luck with the little guy/girl! =)

each breeder has their own mark marshal is the one that dose the blue tatoos so they know which of the millions of ferrets they breed for selling and i hate to say for research are fixed any way UFO United ferret organization use to tattoo the opposite side of marshal i think marshal did left and they did right sorry i can't remember so i will try to find their info but their both for identification for neutering and for more info when a ferret is fixed it is automatically decent ed because they are attached

When you say "tattoo" do you mean dark spots on her ear or tattoos? If it spots I wouldn't worry 'cause I used to have 2 ferrets and at least one of them had those spots on his ear. He was perfectly fine but you still may want to have a vet look at it just in case.

Usually a mark from where they are bred. Marshall Farms marks there ferrets like this. It helps to know where they came from, so that they can know if it is reputable, also, if you need to get $ back, they know you can't bring one back that was bred at a bad place. I love my ferrets!!!!

NYGROOMER is the only one that got it right.................
some other breeders use tattoos as well, but only Marshall uses the two dots to show you that your ferret has been descented AND spayed/neutered.

Some animals are tattoo so they can be returned to the owner. Have your vet look at it, he/she can tell you more.
