The Velcro on the flap of my hiking pants is thick will lint and bits of string. Is there any way to "rehabilitate" Velcro by removing the stuff caught in its "hook" side? I am hoping for something that will save me the hassle and expense of getting a tailor to sew on new bits of Velcro.

sew it on yourself - a tailor?! What a luxury. Go down to the market and get some sewing velcro, its probably cost you about 50p plus anothe 50p for a small bobbin of the same coloured cotton - taljk about lazy

use a safety pin to get the lint out of the hook side, and take a pair of scissors and lightly trim the fuzzy side. it will stick like new again.

YOU DONT HAVE TO GET A TAILOR.....THERE IS A VELCRO THAT COMES WITH MIGHTY STRONG ADHESIVE ....YOU COULD JUST PEEL AND STICK A MEASURED CUT PIECE AS CLOSE TO THE OLD AS YOU CAN OR TAKE THE OLD OFF AND REPLACE WITH THIS.....COMES IN BLACK AND WHITE....MIGHT COME IN COLOR TOO ....ANY SEW SHOP

Try a fine bristle wire brush, Like the kind you use on suede or car whitewalls. you can use it on both the hook and loop sides.

Tape rolled backward around your fingers or a hard (stiff) toothbrush.
