I use a small nail brush and some apple washing up liquid, just gently scrub them clean, wash it off and let them dry, when dry apply polish or suede and nubuck cleaner and protector. They look as good as new and no longer stink.

Rockport has a cleaner to buy where you buy the shoes or boots I would ask what they recommend because lots of things you put on them will change the color

Knock them on the wall to rid of excess mud and then put in the washing machine.

Stick them in the washing machine and let them dry naturally then polish them with shoe/boot polish.

Don't wash for a week, you will smell worse than the boots so hopefully one-one will notice.
