My roommate and I have a comcast cable modem. It works at about 50% speed than it should. Sometimes its slower than dial up. I use a cable to connect to the modem.

Its not my computer that would be the problem because when I'm at my friends house with my computer (Apple ibook) I use the AirPort to connect to his internet access and it works perfectly. Superfast.

What is the problem? Plus, comcast came out to look at it, they replaced that silver thing (I forget what its called), it still did no good.

Your cable segment may be oversubscribed. Call ComCast and complain some more.

I have Cox Cable, and they had to replace the coax from the utility pole at the street to the modem to cleanup my signal.
