My husband will soon be promoted within his company, and we could be asked to go virtually anywhere in the continental US. We have been comparing statistics like cost of living, etc, out of several websites, but those number do not tell the whole story.
If you could answer by personal experience, even better.

I would recommend that you move to Wisconsin - very low costs of apartments, housing, etc. Plus, there is very low criminal activity.

I would never live in Chicago, Illinois because there are so many crimes going on, all the time.

Atlanta, it would depend on what you and your husband like, but I feel that Atlanta is not the best place to live. While Atlanta has opened a new aquarium and other things, and it may have Six Flags, it's quite an overrated city. It does not have the things of a real city. Urban sprawl is worse here than any other place. I should know. I live in the metro Atlanta area and it is a nightmare for someone who does not have a car, because the mass transit system is poorly funded and not very reliable compared to most transit systems in the USA. If you want to live in a nice place, try Seattle, San Francisco, or San Diego(not LA but San Diego). Atlanta might be cheap compared to most places, but I find it to be overrated as well.

Miami is really bad!!! I live here and I'm moving out of state. Kids using profanity, misguided youth, and not to mention missing parenting. High cost of living doesn't include quality. Plus, you would have to learn a whole new language. There really is no potential for growth here. People are very close-minded leading to people not learning. Most of the people living in Miami are not honest workers. They got their job because they knew someone in the company. Boston or NYC would be the best cities to live in.

Los Angeles. I love to visit, but would never want to live there....way too much traffic, too many people, would hate the weather (same all year...I like the different seasons), expensive, etc.

I live in Nashville and I like it here, although it's growing.

I would not live in Gary, Indiana. It is cheap to live there and close to Chicago but Michael Jackson grew up there.
