I'm afraid some people think that, because the child is still attached and dependent on its mother for everything, that it is actually a part of the mother's body and not its own being. Make no mistake, there is NO scientific evidence that it is not a human being. But, the sad truth is, people believe what they want to believe.
It is not a question of religion whether or not abortion should be legal. In fact, it is entirely in the interest of science to know when a human life begins. Admittedly there may be a departure from science into the realm of philosophy in determining how we define a human being. However, we must recognize that we are already admitting to some kind of definition of what a human being is; evidence of this is the fact that we have a law against murder at all.
It is also for the stability of society that we recognize when a human life begins (and ends), because if we do not have a good feel for this, the criteria for "human life" are going to become more and more narrow, perhaps to the point where it is legal to kill a four-year-old child with birth defects (cf. Nazi Germany). Some may say that it will not get that bad again, but the fact of the matter is that the people who did those awful deeds in Nazi Germany were just that: people. They had the same basic nature as everyone else. Because of this, I don't think it's unrealistic to see the world drifting in that direction again.

First,
Religion and law must be seperate. It is only fair. Imagine if you were not allowed to have a beer or work or cook on Sunday ETC.
With that said, the line has too be drawn. Most polititians are drawing it in the thrird term where as you are drawing the line from th second of conception.
Perhaps others more extreme than yourself will draw the line at using condoms or other anti pregnacy tools such as the pill. Is an egg not a life? In some eyes it is. What about Sperm? Does a male masterbating constitute the same crime?
Everything is perspective and I am sorry that I disagree with you, but I do

Okay. Take your fingernail and scrape it around on the inside of your cheek. You'll find a cluster of cells under it. Now think about what a baby is in the first bit of pregnancy, eh? Much the same, but those cells have the potential to be a person.
They also have the potential to be an extra arm or leg for someone - possibly even a heart. Do you believe in stem cell research? If you think it's amoral, think about all the lives that could be saved if there were extra hearts in the world.
What about the war in Iraq? How many people have we killed? That's legal, isn't it?
My point: death happens, and there's practically nothing we can do about it. If everyone lived to be 100, can you imagine how overpopulated the world would be? Try going to the low-income part of a large city in the states - you'll find families of 12 living in one-bedroom apartments.
Your body is yours, and my body is my own to deal with. If you'd like to tell me what to do with it, come over for coffee and I'll tell you how much that isn't going to work.
[Oh - and thank you to (I think it was something like 'hippypaul' or something) for being male and without an opinion. Male lawmakers shouldn't be allowed to vote on women's issues, and vice versa.]

Oh, please...think about what you are saying. IF a child was raped at 11 by her own father and went to the doctor to discover she was impregnated and found out she would die if she didn't have an abortion because she was too young to mother a child and her body would not allow either she or the baby to live, what would you advise? IS this murder? There are always special circumstances. Won't you admit to at least that?

**** you. I just sneezed and killed 10,000,000 micro-organisms with the same claim to a divine soul that a clump of fetal tissue has.
You have no way to justify that a fetus is a human being, other than that it has DNA... so what? Is there a passage in the Bible that says: the soul enters the clump of cells at conception? No. There is no such thing a scientist can point to to say YES~~ this is the human immortal soul, look at it attach here to this clump of cells at conception. And you want to lord this subterranean, Catholic, anti-scientific view over us secular people in secular governments?
You have no justification. ****** stop.
Real people, with developed minds, who feel pain, who know the world and care for each other are dying by the millions-- and you're crying over UNWANTED pregnancies?

As a male I do not have a right to an opinion on abortion. I will never be faced with the problem. However. I fear any government that makes laws regarding what people can or can not do with their bodies. Every time you are ovulating and do not have sex a person could have been born. Do you feel there should be laws making you have intercourse every ovulation between puberty and menopause?

There is much sin in the world and many people have much unGodlessness in their lives. I am certainly against abortion and would encourage everyone to consider otherwise when considering ending your childs life. Maybe this child will cure cancer, atleast give it a chance or put it up for adoption if you cannot support it.

Tell me that you would have a baby if it was the product of a violent crime, and I'll call you a liar.
Tell me that you'd have a baby that would be born dead, and would kill you in the process.
I don't believe in abortion as a form of birth control, but I do feel that it is okay under certain circumstances.

Please don't breed.
There must be something to ponder if a child is raised by someone who can't finish their education and secure a good career before family matters. Our species is in no danger of extinction at this time.
Adoption would be a logical alternative, as there are many people who want to have children, but are unable. Apparently, this combination of male/female are forbidden by their Maker to conceive?
