We went with a design/build builder. He finally finished designing our house. He has taken forever to get prices on the different areas to build our house. It seems like he has put us on tha back burner. I have told him this and he assures us that he is working diligently on our project. His prices also seem sort of high on some things. What is going on? We do have the permits and loan already done.

We are building a SIP home. Should we maybe right out a timeline for the building of the different phases of the house and have him sign it. He has given us a timeline, which is already behind. We have not sign on with him for the building phase. I like him as a builder because he is letting us do a lot of work ourselves and letting us contract somethings on our own. A lot of builders we talked with will not do that.

We paid for the permits ourselves and got them ourselves. Why?

You have to check with theCty. and fine out what you can build. Some area's have strick codes on how small or big. The codes for building chage all the time, The windows have to be a certain size, door ways etc involives alot of things, But if not sure about the prices of things ask around. . Good luck Pem

i built houses for a living from the ground up,ask if they are backed up,do they start several jobs at the same time, how big is there crew, how long will it take for you to finalize before i can move in,most contractors will allow a couple weeks for any things they might encounter like mother nature etc..ask a review the contract before you sign it,take it home and read it carefully,a good contractor works with you not around you

I would give him a deadline date, and tell him if he doesn't meet it you will take your business elsewhere. And if the date isn't satisfactory to you or he doesn't meet the date he promises you, move on to someone else. You will not be happy with this builder if he fails the "deadline date" method and better to find this out now.
