well I mean... it's obviously opinion... because it would be hard to measure "hard work"... but in your opinion

victory: but doesn't everyone say that they work hard?
in other words... even if successful people weren't really hard workers... wouldn't they still say and maybe even belive that they are hard workers... no one wants to say that they are not a hard worker...
I know people that I know haven't worked very hard and have had success (their fathers have known people, etc.)... but they would tell you that they have worked hard for their success...

I've heard statistics that 80% of the wealth in the USA is inherited. Also, not to be picky but 'success' can be based on a lot of different values.
Here is my take on success in terms of wealth/hard work.
You do have the lucky... ie, Bill Gates got lucky that he had a good idea BUT then again if he hadn't had a rich uncle fund him while he was working out of his garage, he wouldn't be what he is today.
Basically, if you are poor and from a poor family, you are pretty much doomed to stay in poverty. This is why I am so pro-affirmative action. I think it is the only way to help some of these ppl trapped in poverty break out of it.
I remember hearing years ago that something like the rich hold 95% of all the wealth in this country. And of those rich ppl, 10% of them hold 90% of that 95%.
What I am getting at is: it is a crock of bull that hard work gets you any darn thing. It is all about who you know, what kind of financing you have from the start, and what gender you are. Yes, gender plays an enormous role in this. Men know this better than us women but don't like to admit it... there is a good ole boys club that the business women have a hard time getting invited into. IE, how many business transactions have been made while out on the boat fishing or on the golf course?
Lastly, poor ppl work extremely hard but they are just held to a higher standard. I know when I got out of college I felt like I was being treated like royalty in my first job. It was a freaking different planet... the difference between blue versus white collar jobs. The blue collar job I had before college treated me like a slave where I had to explain or get written up for being 4 minutes late. After college, I was in heaven... lunch whenever I felt like going...2 hour window between 7 and 9am to show up for work...
It always amazes how we pay the poor less to work harder and put more demands on them. Honestly, I hate capitalism.

I've found the harder I work, the more luck I have!

Well done is better than well said.
Benjamin Franklin 1706-1790
I myself have found all success comes from hard work. I never got anything for doing nothing. It is possible to be successful and not be rich! Then " A fool and his money are soon parted"!

100% of success is based on hard work in my experience. I have no idea what percentage of poor people work hard.
Hard work is no substitute for brains either...they go hand in hand.

Depends on the job. A manual labor job will require a lot of hard work and sucking up. A psychiatrist requires more education and thoughful work, and a ton of sucking up, too.

90% plus. But working a hard job, and working hard toward a goal are not the same thing.

Successful people everywhere will tell you that hard work is 90% of it.
Unsuccessful people will tell you it's all luck.

12.6%. The rest is luck.
76.7% of poor people work hard. The smart ones finally say, "What the hell?", giving the poor a bad name.
You can't win, you know?
