Being "a gangster" is apparently cool - what would be "cooler" still?

I am trying to get my head around the phenomenon of youngsters reinventing themselves to be perceived as more threatening. Right now, a hooded seater and a shuffling, ex-con style walk do the trick to ward off even greater evil (I'm sure it's a protective mechanism - if you live in an environment where predators are ready to pounce, better make sure you are one, too). But when will this spiral bottom out, and what will it take for a new direction to take hold? What might that new direction be?

I'm not sure if this is cooler, as in socially more attractive, but I believe two things that are better are truly enjoying all the things that make you unique, i.e. spending time to find and do your own thing, and allowing people room to do the same.

The other thing is actually wanting and working to be a role model. I often hear a lot of celbrities saying that they're not trying to be a role-model, even though that is exactly what they've become.
I for one would like to see a celebrity (or non-celebrity) step up and say the opposite. Not only that, but live up to and face down the scrutinizing pressure of such a , showing true mettle and heroism.

To further answer your question, people have always fantasized about being part of a dangerous career. Maybe you played "cowboys and Indians", "cops and robbers" or wanted to be an astronaut when you were a kid? I'm sure during Roman times children played "Gladiator" and in cavemen time children played, "Hunter gatherer". Its perfectly normal for people today to act "Gangster".

I don't think this phenomenon has been declining or rising lately. I can't say that it will bottom-out, increase, or decrease at all. Its always been this way and it has not caused any problems before, so it not something we really have to worry about now.

hopefully in the near future our minds will be set on the dangers of our world today and how we can make it better for the next generation. Instead of dealing with problems that don't effect people in big ways and that don't get the attention of those that we are trying to get! I'm am against gangs and everything they do. It just adds more negativity to the world, and just makes people wonder if there is such thing as world peace!

It would be cooler to walk around saying that you just got butt raped by a big inmate because that is the next step. I know alot of people who are urban yet still very smart and educated.
