At my job interview a few days ago, when asked what I would like to do to improve myself, I mistakenly answered I wanted to improve my computer skills to the advanced level. I reiterated that my Microsoft Office Suite skills were intermediate but that I felt there was always room for improvement especially if it would help to get the job done more efficiently and quicker. The interviewer questioned specific applications and in my nervous state I let it be know that my powerpoint knowledge was basic at best but that I was practicing on tutorials to bring me up to par. They seemed unconcerned and said it was very easy to learn and the rest of the interview went well. Afterwards, I heard thru the agency I used that they really liked me but were concerned that my powerpoint skills were lacking. They want to see more people - I was the first person to be interviewed. Did I blow my chance for this job?

i dont think you blew it, those are easy skills to learn, and the job agency usually just attaches on to one thing, be cool, make sure to send a follow up letter thanking the interview staff and re-iterate your position

No, you didn't blow it. If you were the first person they interviewed, most places always interview several people before they select the most qualified from the bunch. You may have just shown that you are lacking in some areas, but you also showed them that you are taking personal responsability to improve your qualifications. They will take that all into consideration.

If they are looking at more people that means that they are not interested in your. No matter what they told the agency. They always tell the agencies that.

Like many other people have answered. If you blew it by being honest about your abilities than you don't want to work there in the first place.

Not necessarily, but if they find someone with more experience on Power Point, they'll probably go with them. It's a simple matter of hiring the best person for the money.

Good Luck!

Your honesty means more... what would have happened if they hired you and you mislead them about your computer skills? You would have been canned upon discovery of your lack of skills and dishonesty... and you wouldn't have a good start now, would you? I'd upgrade those skills soon... they're right... you can master them in a short period of time. Good luck!

If you blew it by being honest, then it's not a job you want.
