It's a lot different than Atlanta and the winters are really, really cold. If that bothers you, stay where you are!

Chicago is quite different from Atlanta....Atlanta is laid back and settled relaxed atmosphere. Based on the side of the city you live on Chicago is always busy. Moving to the north side, is like living in NY, that part of the city never sleeps but it is actually the best part of the city, and the most expensive, because it includes downtown and a lot of preppy neighborhoods. The north side of the city also has everything you can ever need in walking distance. It is also congested unlike the south-side of the city but public transportation is good throughout the city. My aunt moved from Atlanta to Chicago and would prefer the Atlanta life. Whereas one of my cousins moved from Atlanta to Chicago and loves the busy lifestyle. Much depends on what you like and where you move. Of course, Chicago has winters which have not been bad in the past few winters as usual. Last winter it was extremely cold for a total of eight days I would say. That is not a bad winter to me. Haven't had a decent blizzard in years....Chicago winters are overrated. Chicago is not as friendly as Atlanta but much more friendly than NY.

Fulvio,

Thank you for your question.

Chicago is ranked as one of 10 "Alpha" (most influential) world cities.Chicago is the financial, economic, and cultural capital of the Midwest. TAtlanta was ranked as a Gamma world city. The city is recognized as a major transportation, business, and architectural center of the United States. The city's skyscrapers, local cuisine, political traditions, and sports teams are some of its most recognized symbols.

Like Atlanta, Chicago has a high proportion of African-Americans. with 40 per cent. About one-third of the population are Caucasian, around a quarter Hispanic and one-twentieth Asian, with small amounts of other groups filling in the remainder. Chicago also has several dozen distinct neighborhoods to match its ethnic diversity; the city is divided into 77 community areas, identified in the 1920s by the University of Chicago. The city is a very diverse one.

As in much of the midwest, Midwest, has a climate that is prone to extreme, often volatile, weather conditions. The city experiences four distinct seasons. In July, the warmest month, high temperatures average 84 °F (29 °C) and low temperatures 63 °F (17 °C). In January, the coldest month, high temperatures average 29 °F (−2 °C) with low temperatures averaging 13 °F (−11 °C). The winters are colder than Atlanta.

Chicago won first place in the 2006 city livability awards conducted by the US Conference of Mayors and Waste Management.

If I were you, I'd give it a go and see how you like it.

I have attached some links for your reference.

Regards

I'm from Chicago and I absolutely love it, but HATE the winters. It is the coldest, meanest, windiest, slipperiest, iciest place from late November to late April. The rest of the time it is rather splendid. Always something to do no matter your background, age, color, tastes or budget. Be sure to move the a good/right neighborhood for you. The best way to figure this out is to go to the City of Chicago's fab website and look at the festivals calendar and visit a couple. My family is from Northwest Indiana and my sister lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood which is very cool. You won't be sorry but the winters are a mutha.

If you are a native Georgian, you will find the food very different...... As for Chicago, they have a good reason for calling it the "windy city", it is windy and it is cold in the winter. Socially, it is alot like Atlanta, there is always something to do. I don't think you would be sorry, after all any place is what we make it. Best of luck to you.

Chicago is better than Atlanta in every way, except the weather. Winters are horrible.

I'll be honest I've lived in both ATL and Chicago. The winters in Chicago suck, get ready to bundle up and try to stay warm, but the summers are much nicer than ATL. I have to say, culture, lifestyle, and activities Chicago wins hands down
