Yeah, it'd be great if people knew how to spell and use English properly!

Pity you're not one of us that can.

Sure. What language do you propose? American? How about Chinese? After all they pretty much outnumber us. Isn't there strength in numbers? Heh. I propose English, but most Americans don't understand it. Canadians have a grasp of it, but don't speak it well. French Canadians? That's a whole different ball game there so I won't go there.

Hell, how about we all choose Spanish from Spain? Mexican Spanish is different and partially bastardized so it wouldn't be right to be making everyone speak that. So, I propose that the new national language of your country be Spanish... real Spanish. How do you like them apples? (grin)

For the record, I do believe that you should be learning the language of the country you choose to call home. You can't expect any respect from locals/natives of that country otherwise. But you shouldn't demand there be one unified language. It would be far to difficult to implement.

Before you make any judgment about any other language you ought to learn your own properly. If you were to spell properly, and become more polished in your grammar, you would become more articulate and have less trouble expressing exactly what you want to say.

In this world it is always better to have more than one language; smart people know that it is not just for business that another language can be useful: there are certain concepts in each language that can not be easily translated into another. Of couse if one is able to read the other language in its original - without translation - one will read the thoughts and concepts as expressed, not in translation.; they might give us food for thought.

It's to anyone's advantage to learn the countries language they live in but diversity & culture are an awesome part of this world...to do without it would be a great loss to humanity.

Maybe the United States should consider dual-languages like Canada. Immigration is not going to stop anytime soon.

There is nothing in the Constitution that says anything about one language. I do feel everyone one who comes here should learn English.

Even if there was one official language, ethnics wouldn't lose their language. They'd speak it at home and so forth. I don't see the problem with having an official language or learning some of theirs.

No. No need to have 1 language. Switzerland has 3 official languages and they are very prosperous.

Very true. But then again we have to adapt to change. But you do need to learn english if you're going to live and work in the USA.
