I did read this book and I really didn't like it that much. The story was slow and not that interesting. Its a story I have heard again and again. I was hoping for something diffrent.

This is a great book! Yeah, there are stories of race relations in the South set in the 50/60s where the kids fall in love and every thing ends happily ever after. But, it was refreshing in that I learned about the Black Madonna, the Feast of Mary, and the fragility of the human psyche. I was also reminded of the strength of women working together to accomplish much.
I would and have recommended this book to others.
When I can get the money, I want to read the Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd.

You obviously liked the book, since you say it is great, why?

I loved this book a lot. I could not put it down. I was disappointed in the Mermaid Chair. I recommend reading Gods in Alabama. The characters are as addictive as The Life of Bees.

Heard it was good and now I'll have to read it.

Sorry not to answer, but her other book is The Mermaid's Chair (I think)...is it any good?

Thanks.
