Be U
And not anyone else
Else, you'll be miserable because your values and your friends' values are not the same
And you'll be badly influenced

Just do what you love doing, no matter what that is
Criticism only makes you stronger

I didn't exactly "fit in", but a lot of people knew who I was and my name was known around
I liked what I was known for, so I didn't care what others thought

Be nice to all different types of people. Avoid joining a tight clique and snubbing everyone else, no matter how popular that group might be. If you have a falling out you find yourself alone! I agree that get good grades is a good idea. It will not only open doors for you in the future, it will give you respect from the intelligent people in your school. In the end, you'll find those are some of the most sincere and interesting people to know, and they will likely become successful in life. (This may take until your 10th reunion to realize, but it is worth keeping in mind if you can while you are in school!) Join organizations or play sports. Again, it's great to have lots of different friend groups.

Non of that stuff works at my school. But a friend (now enemy) became very popular by doing the following :

Pretending he had Turkish background (My school has alot of Turkish and Arabic and I am from Australia. He is Aussie and story doesn't make sence)

Pretending to have sex by bringing someones poo stained female underwear and pissing on it(He used his mothers)

Being a total bastard. It worked for him.

Failing subjects. He is deffinitly not going to pass VCE with all his F's.

I don't do any of those and am the least popular kid in my class, so it must work. :) ...

:( Popularity comes from basterdnese, wahaha.

Study and learn. Socially, be interested and ask questions about your peers interests—do not be swayed by them and chart your own course for success in the future.
