i recently got a used boss metal zone pedal. when i put a fairly new 9 volt battery in, it didnt work, and instead made staticy noises when i tried it on guitar. i found an old ac/adaptor in my closet, and it works ok with the pedel, it still sometimes makes staticy sounds. if i continues to use the adaptor, will it eventualy wreck my pedal?
also if someone has similar probelsm with a 9 volt battery, please tell me thanks.

First you need to make sure that the problem you're hearing is from the pedal itself. Check your guitar cables, the input on your guitar and the input on the amp. Then check to make sure the inputs aren't just dirty.

As for the powersupply problem - it should work with the battery, if it's a new pedal it's still under warranty, you may just be able to exchange it from where you got it from. If it's used have someone with electronics experience look at it to make sure all the wires are connected and letting the current flow.

Also make sure the AC adapter you're using is the proper voltage for the pedal. That information should be labeled somewhere on the pedal.

Here's the Metal Zone pedal info page from the Boss website:

The static might be due to dirt in the electronics. There is a posibility that the adapter could wreck the pedal, since that wasn't what it was made for. Did you buy the pedal used from a store or individual? You shold ALWAYS try before you buy. And if they won't let you, RUN!

o.k. I even have this pedal and that i be responsive to the type you experience guy. its troublesome to locate a good tone on it cus its alot extra versatile then different boss pedals made for steel. so heres what i decide for to advise for a very scooped kinda "dimebag darrell" ish tone... point 40 5%-50% intense 75% Low a hundred% Mid 20%-40% Mid Freq 40%-40 5% benefit 50%-75% for some extra mids, opposite the mid and mid frequency (so mid could be 40-40 5 and freq could be 20-40) the insane has some mid on it however the dimebag placing sounds fairly super

The battery connectors are propably screwed, you might want to take it to a guitar store and try it with other equipment and get it checked if it dosent work.

the adapter shouldnt hurt your pedal, the input might be dirty, or you might have a bad chord. you also need to make sure that your using instrument chords and not speaker chords. that can screw it up too.
