My friend has an online boyfriend and she recently told me about meeting him in real life. They have exchanged phone numbers and call eachother, but I'm still concerned about it due to all the online predators in the news. What should I say to her to make sure shes safe? Or should I just let them meet eachother? Help!

Make sure they are meeting in public areas. If this guy is on the level then he should have no problem with this because he's interested in his own saftey as well as letting her know that he isn't a psycho. If he bucks then he's either looking for sex and nothing else or he could be truly dangerous. Depending on how old your friend is I would consider letting someone know be it her parents or maybe a school counsler. She may be upset with you but thats better then her being in danger.

you should tell her about the online preditors i have a story that you need to tell her be4 she meets him

(one year ago this girl was on the internet and found this guy and was talking with him they gave eachother their phone numbers they have wanted to meet eachother for 5 years. The girls parents finally let her meet this guy and go out on a date and she said she would be back in 3 hours "well here is the sad part"
3 hours pass and she didnt return the parents called her cell and it was dissconected so 1 week passes and no one has heard from her since the day she went on a date with the guy online)

true story
THE END
p.s. Dont let her go with him if she doesnt know him.

My 2 friends have met people online, and are both engaged now to those people! LOL! Yes, it's very dangerous, but if they've been talking for a LONG time, have seen pictures, and talked over the phone, and still feel safe, make sure she meets him in a very public place...and tell her not to let him take her into a potentially secluded or dangerous place, especially alone. I have also met a guy I met online, and he was not a pervert or anything other than what I expected. And I talked to him online and over the phone first...and I met him in daylight, in public areas. I also exchanged pictures with him first, online. I know that's still not very safe, but it turned out to be OK...we even dated for a while! Good luck with your friend...tell her to be cautious and safe, but to have fun! You are a great friend for being concerned! =) I don't blame you for worrying, lol!

Well, you can't "let them" do anything. She's meeting this guy. Why don't you take a few friends and go to the same cafe your friend and her "boyfriend" are going. You all can have a signal if you and your friends, or she, thinks he's dangerous.

Make sure she's careful at all times, that she meets him at a public place, and that she's very careful on her way home.

Meet in a public place and stay in a public place. Its just like going on any date. You meet a guy, think you click so you go out on a date, you dont know the guy isnt a rapist or serial killer. Even after 10 dates they may turn out to be!

Yes, this is a potentially dangerous situation. If she does decide to meet him in person, tell her to do it in a very public place with a lot of people around, and ask her to call you every few hours so you know she's okay.

Ask your friend to meet him in a very public place such as a coffeeshop or a restaurant, so that if something goes wrong, she can easily leave. She also shouldn't go somewhere 'private' with him until after a few real dates.

It can happen anywhere. I went on many dates through the internet. I was a victim a party at my University. I never hear people telling me to be careful at my school party.

You never know. If you are concern about her safety, tell her you are going with her in public places only, such as the mall (far away from your hometown), marketplace, fair, amusement parks, and so on.

Tell her to meet him in a very public place for the first time. Pretty simple huh ?

If she is determined to meet him, I would advise against it, then you should find out all of the info about where they are going to be. Then, you need to keep in contact w/her all night and make sure that she is all right.
