In the process of approaching each other, microbes often extend pseudopod to each other, as an ID. Some developed the habit of including genetic material with this. These extensions are called pili, and work just like a penis. So, sex.

Sex as you call it is not what we think of as human sexual intercourse. You mean sexual reproduction as opposed to asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is characterized by combining the genetic material (chromosomes) of two separate organisms. It is theorized that this happened by accident, that genetic recombination and crossing over of genes occurred accidentally, but this is beneficial to the survival of a species because it insures genetic variety. So that if all of a sudden a disease comes about, if all of the microbes were the same, then the disease could kill all of them. But if some of the microbes are genetically different, all with different combinations of genes, then some will survive, while others will be killed. This is the foundation for natural selection.

in biology, the world "accidentally" is often used. some believes human got a brain by accident. u say or others say "sex was discovered by accident ". another one says the world was created by accident. we are very lucky because in probability only a 5050 chance is normal.
theory of evolution is not yet complete and there is no proof for this theory. no one knows the answer for ur question and even the theory of evolution can not answer it because this theory itself is still a question.
i believe in God and believe that this world, the sex, and the brain and every thing are not produced by accident and as lovingdaddyof2b said "[they were] designed".

It wasn't discovered, it was designed.
That the world was designed and implemented is obvious. To deny it is to deny basic facts of nature.
Evolution states that we have a bunch of chemicals, add energy and then over a long period of time we get organized matter and eventually life. The problem is that adding energy increases entropy.
To all who believe that theory I would ask this:
If I put a frog in a blender and put it on high for a thousand years, would I ever get a frog back out. All the chemical ingredients are there. We have added a lot of energy. We also increased the entropy by proportion to the energy added.
Duh. Give God the glory he is due.

Bumping into one another and having the chemical receptors in their cell membranes open up a connecting path.
Bacteria regularly gobble up bits of DNA from their surroundings and incorporate it into their own genetics.
Unless you're asking how people figured out that single celled organisms have 'sex'. In which case there are still single celled organisms that link up and swap genes before dividing.
