Lots of good ideas here but...
1. Signage--you need great signage.

2. Then what's your target. Old golfers or young? Kids? Teens? Moms? Retired? Your target should be a little different from the competition's.

3. Pricing and couponing. Can you give out 2 fer coupons at some event or location where your target likes to hang?

4. Last but not least, radio advertising if you can afford it and there is a station that really matches your target audience.

Talk to your current customers and get their ideas. Give them coupons to give to their friends. Your best salespeople are the people who already know you.

Cheap and easy way is to have business cards printed with a promotional offer on the back, and hand them out where ever you go. Also, become a member of your local chamber of commerce, the welcome wagon for new residents. New subdivisions being built in your area? Take some of your cards to the realtor that shows the models, I am sure she/he will set them out for you. Some realty offices put together gift packages for clients who just purchased a home that include coupons and special offers from local business, so check them out as well. Dont forget hotels in your area, people that travel are always looking for something to do & love to save money!

Find cheap ways to advertise. Print up your own flyers and offer some sort of discount or freebie and put them on windsheilds of cars in parking lots of sporting goods stores and other places where people maybe interested in golf.

the first thing one must do is to have a solid operating budget, i.e. lease/mortgage, insurance, product, supplies etc.
then one must also include in yearly budget an advertising/public relations/sponsorship component.
then, start building relationships as best as possible with your customers, employees, vendors and others that you meet.
then, do as the others answering this suggested and do it methodically, not all in one shot. do not go over budget and remember that you must identify a target group of people and pursue them as you learn more about what they like. direct mail is also worth considering as is text messaging things like monthly specials.
good luck and make sure to always have extra tees and new balls - we appreciate it greatly!
