Evora Jordan's mysteries are very interesting, because she based these on things that really happened. Her lastest came out in May.
Tainted Town has murder, corruption and a ghost in a small town in New Hampshire.
She has 3 Murder Mysteries. The first one is Tainted Sand. This is based on a major case up in Maine... the body was never found.
Evora sneaks a little bit of romance in her books.

I'm not much for suspense, but if you want to give fantasy a try here are some of the better ones:
King Fortis the Brave
Harry Potter
Eragon
Chronicles of Narnia

i like the vampire chronicles and other books by anne rice. its sort of romance/horror/suspense. she takes a while to get into the story, but as soon as it starts, it starts. sometimes if i have no clue what to read, i walk through the library and just pick up books with a cool cover. even though they tell you not to judge a book by its cover...

I can recommend 'Velocity' by Dean Koontz. I forced myself not to sleep just so I could begin and finish this book in one sitting. Total page-turner, edge of your seat kind of suspence.
