MDA, PCP, pot, acid, Quaaludes, white cross speed, downers to name a few.
And the ever present herion and coke
Ecstasy and crack weren't around

Cocaine was the big one...led many a person to financial ruin. And led many a person into prison for long periods. Grass was, and is a good recreational drug...relatively harmless as long as you do not smoke and drive.
Acid was a biggy in the 70's and 80's..led to lots of self realization and great sex.
PCP claimed lots of brains and lives...foolish drug, foolish people.
Heroine was, and still is a big problem.
Mescalin and MDA were fashionable, but only Mescalin was a good trip. MDA turned everyone into "Chatty Cathy" ...couldn't get them to stop running their mouths. Coke did/does the same thing.
Crack ruined many, many lives...still does...very dumb drug to even try, for the results are so good, it is hard not to do it again, and if you do it twice, you will do it a third time, and be hooked. NOt a good idea.
Qualudes were popular, but never could understand anyone wanting to do downers.
Alcohol was big, and it still is.
Nicotine was big, and it still is.
Real poppers , although not a drug, were big.
