It's hard to compare the two since they don't play the same position. They both have strong and weak points to their game. But personally I do believe Dirk is the better player all around.

Nash is only good because of the rule changes which forbid the defender from checking the offensive player. This rule was put in place the year that steve nash first won MVP. Nash is good but not as good a point as Kidd, Stockton, or Magic. Dirk would be good regardless of the rules so Dirk.

If you're asking about the stats, Nash is better than Dirk, no doubt he got the MVP award.
But if you are comparing the leadership of the two, I still go for Nash. He led Suns to playoffs without Amare. It takes a lot of leadership skills to lead a team who had lose a player who dominates the board, scores and contribute much to the team.
So, for me, overall, still Steve Nash.
When comparing two great players, you have to be specific in what area to compare :)

Phoenix without Steve Nash is a last place team. No other player in the NBA does what Nash does for the Suns.
Dirk is very good, but he has a much better team around him.

No Steve Nash was the MVP the past two seasons,Dirk is pretty good but he cant be compared with the most valuable player.

No, Dirk barely even plays his position. He should be a small foward. I've never seen Nowitski dunk. Nash has more experience, good free throw and field goal percentage, and plenty of assists.

i think dirk is a ballhog. the team don't pass the ball to him unless they are in trouble. like in his bad games, you see that he always wants the ball but misses all of his shots. in his good games, he gets it when the other players are in trouble. and in his good games, the other players stats are under their average because dirk always scores the points. but in his bad games, some other player (like howard or terry) do better than him. so nash it is. nash NEVER hogs the ball. and he lets other players shine, like diaw or bell or thomas or marion or stoudemire.

Steve Nash is better because he get everbody in the team points and he make everbody better and he won back to back mvps.
